Disarming Negativity

There is no doubt that life will take us through different pathways at different times. Negative experiences are a part of life as much as happier and positive ones. Unlike the more positive phases, negative states tend to affect us in sometimes complex ways. Shame, guilt, anger, grief, apathy, and other negative emotions cause stress and anxiety in us, destroy our mental peace, and have other long-term effects. But like all other happier emotions, they also have value for each of us. These adverse feelings tell us more about ourselves than one can imagine, it helps us solve make-up of a complicated situation and mind.

There are two ways negative feelings are dealt with by an affected person-

  1. Staying in a negative state of mind for a long period
  2. Moving from the negative emotion too quickly

Both are unhealthy patterns. The reason in both cases is the same- unawareness, ignorance, lack of insight. How above two practices unfavorably influence a person?

Staying Too Long

There are a few scenarios that can develop when one stays in a negative state for too long. Some of those consequences are as below-

  1. Development of victimhood
  2. Sluggishness to move away
  3. Addiction to the feeling of negativity/victimhood
  4. Deepening of the root of negativity

Moving Away too Quickly

A few people, when unable to handle the distress stemming from a negative feeling tend to move away too quickly. That transfers the power of negative emotions to a different area. Some of them are mentioned below-

  1. Festering of negativity at a subconscious level
  2. Inward growth that often goes unchecked
  3. The triggers, causes, and effects remain untreated
  4. The root becomes deeper

Both situations cause many unwanted and unhelpful results on a person’s psyche and thickens the root of negativity to a graver level. In both cases one becomes helpless and does not understand how to seek an advantageous way out.

Creating an Effective Way

Facing one’s negative state of mind creating a place of acceptance for these feelings is a healthier approach. Through conscious process one can certainly always live in an aware state. Understanding their triggers will help them accept an occurrence as it happened. The third eye-view over a situation will allow a nonchalant and objective observation over the matter. It will give them a chance to see how and why a situation was created. What triggered their reaction and note their natural reaction to it. Evaluate the value of that reaction. If not useful create an alternate reaction by putting more thought to it and alter the reaction.

Conclusion

All emotions have a value, even the lower vibration states hold a value for a person. There is no better way to delve deeper into our own psyches than to evaluate the state we land in. If the goal of a human being is to find happiness, we need to solve the riddles of our minds by knowing what does not make us happier. By recognizing our emotions, we can give ourselves a moment to respect. By accepting our triggers, we can give ourselves a deeper understanding. And by altering our ineffective reactions to more helpful ones we will give ourselves the ultimate gift – a healthy space.
